Developer Comma Projects, together with interior designer Kate Richards and building designer Jayson Pate Design, has completed a duplex in Queensland, Australia, with a distinctly neutral interior.
Let’s take a look inside one of the villas where the design objective was to instill an immediate sense of tranquility, reminiscent of a day spa or wellness center.
In the living room, calm tones and organic curves are combined with natural wood, while floor-to-ceiling curtains add a soft element.
Nearby, the dining room includes built-in wood banquette seating and a dining table with rounded corners.
Opposite the dining area is the kitchen, which features Turkish marble, chosen to represent the natural ebb and flow of the nearby sand and ocean. A corner cabinet has a rounded edge and includes wall-mounted wine storage.
Outside, there’s a swimming pool with a wood deck and a raised platform for lounging in the sun.
Back inside, we see there are wood stairs that lead to the upper floor of the home.
At the top of the stairs is a retreat that’s located behind a wall of glass.
In the retreat room, there’s a wall of custom wood cabinetry, a lounge area, and a wood-lined window seat.
The primary bedroom features a wood headboard, while in the ensuite bathroom, sunlight cascades through the sky window, illuminating the uneven textures of the handmade Moroccan bejmat tiles, often evoking strong emotional reactions amongst visitors.
The home also has multiple secondary bedrooms, each of which has different furniture, but the same overall color palette.
The guest bathrooms both walk showers with shelving ledges, while the vanities have matching rounded under-mount sinks.
In the laundry, the countertop travels across the washer and dryer, making the most of the space, while the wall adds a textural element.
